What is NIKA?
Formed in 1966, NIKA acts as the governing body for karting in Northern Ireland. We exist to help our member clubs run the sport of karting in Northern Ireland. Our four member clubs are:
- 500 Motor Racing Club of Ireland
- Bishopscourt Kart Club
- Coleraine & District Motor Club
- Ulster Karting Club
- Nutts Corner Circuit Ltd
NIKA only exists because of our clubs and their members, and everything we do is to ensure the development of karting, allowing you to race and enjoy the sport we all love. We ensure that all events are run under Motor Sports Association rules and regulations. The main function of NIKA is to run the Northern Ireland Kart Championships are organised and run each year in conjunction with the member clubs, co-ordinate race dates & generally ensure continuity between the clubs.
NIKA also have a role to liaise the Motorsports Association (MSA), Motorsport Ireland (MSI) & with various bodies outside the sport when a co-ordinated response is required. Being a member of 2&4 Wheels - the umbrella group representing all forms of motorsport in Northern Ireland - ensures we have a louder voice about issues affecting motorsport and karting. The committee members also spend a lot of time applying for funding from 2&4 Wheels & Sport NI to enhance the events you enter and the facilities you use. The committee also liase with Sport NI in the adminstration of the 'Talented Athlete Support Programme'.
Who is NIKA?
Three delegates from each member club are nominated to form the Association Committee. From this group, the Honorary Secretary, Chairman, Treasurer and Vice Chairman are nominated and between them ensure that meetings are held to continue the management of karting, look after the financial management aspects and keep a record of meetings.
The committee also elects two delegates and two alternate delegates who represent karting on the 2&4 Wheels committee. For 2010 our delegates are Terry Wilkinson and Richard Lusty, with Keith Wilkinson and Evan Freeman acting as alternates.
All members of NIKA are volunteers and are therefore unpaid. They, like you, simply love karting and want the best for it.
